Players from five different states are slated to appear in the 77th annual Oil Bowl at Memorial Stadium on June 14.

For the second straight year, there won’t be a Texas-Oklahoma format, but Oklahoma, Arizona, Louisiana and Arkansas will be represented in Wichita Falls’ high school football all-star game.

That’s because the Oil Bowl partnered up with Sports International Football Camps, which runs football clinics across the United States during the summer. Eight athletes who received special accolades from last year’s camps have been invited to play.

Eleven local players will suit up for West Texas as Rider’s Davon Allison, Wichita Falls High’s Neil Esteves and Hirschi’s Reggie Hickman and Rico Shumpert will represent WFISD.

Graham’s Dillon Gonzales, Vernon’s David Garza, Iowa Park’s Dakota Schweiger, City View’s Ethan Raber, Holliday’s Logan Allen, Bowie’s Garland McCoy and Harrold’s Matt Templeton also will play for the West.

Oil Bowl Chairman Gary Hill is excited about partnering with Sports International but said it was a little more difficult this year locking up players as the East only has 31, five fewer than usual.

“We’ve tried to cap it at 36 and every year we’ll have coaches who have 37 or 38,” Hill said. “But not this year. They’re still pretty even matched on numbers and we could still get one or two players added.”

Last year was the first time since 1961 that the Oil Bowl didn’t feature a Texas-Oklahoma rivalry. East Texas claimed a 22-17 victory over West Texas.

Tickets for the Oil Bowl can be purchased at the Maskat Shrine or by calling 940-766-4511.

General admission is $10 per ticket and reserved seating costs $15. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. June 14 at Memorial Stadium.

The Oil Bowl Banquet will be held at 7 p.m. June 13 at the Maskat Shrine.
